Job question?

I just recently graduated high school and before then I was working in different retail stores. Now that I'm out of school I would like to move forward with my life and maybe find a good corporate job maybe starting in the call center for a phone company or something along those lines. I just need a good steady job out of the retail business, only problem is, I feel like I've applied for 2 positions already and have been turned down. I feel like they won't hire me because I dont plan on attending college this fall. I know this probably doesn't seem very smart, but college isn't for everyone and it isn't like I never plan on going. For one, I can't afford school right now, maybe in the spring though. As for now, all I'm looking for is an opportunity to start my life as an independent and get the experience thats necessary for doing so. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :-)

~~Perseverance is the key. Make your resume stand out (may help to have it professionally done), and keep applying. Don't limit yourself to corporations, also look at State, City, and County jobs. Lots of security and room for advancement. You may also want to consider hospitals and doctor's office, they are interesting to work at and you will get some great experience with office work in these. It would be very hard to move up in a corporate world without a degree. You have better chances in these other areas where it isn't as important an issue. Keep trying and explore all types of different office environments. Best of luck!~~

I agree with the above post - with the job market the way it is right now and little experience, you might want to take a look at the military for at least a few years - try to get into something that will prepare you for a technical or professional career when you get out and become a civilian once again. And you will be doing this all on Uncle Sam's dime, not your own. Plus you'll have the VA benefits too when you get out. College these days is mostly for people who have wealthy parents who set up college trust funds for them when they were babies, or who were straight A students in HS and can get scholarships.

The other option, also mentioned already, is finding work at a place that will fund your education while you work or have some sort of tuition reimbusement program. That's the route I ended up taking. Otherwise I would have no money for school on my own either.

You can always try some sort of factory. Also, they may pay for your school. I worked at 3 different book factories, the work wasn't too bad, they all paid decently, there was insurance, paid vacation/sick days and tuition reimbursement programs. Also, it is not unusual to be turned down many times before you find a job. The trick is to just keep trying. When I was looking to get out of the factory and into a professional job, I sent out over 60 resumes and only got three interviews. And I have an associates degree, working on my bachelors with many years job experience.

I don't know what to tell you except keep trying.  You worded your question and explanation quite well for someone who just got out of high school.  Therefor, I suggest you try to save for college or maybe join the military service so your qualified foe the education benefits when you get out.
