Question:

Job seekers allowance claim....?

I'm at college at the moment - my course finishes on the 4th July. I thought that you could set up a claim to start in the future if you tell them the date, I'm sure I did that just before I started college.

But they said

JobCentre:"No you need the exact end date of your course"

Me: "4th July"

JC: "You cant phone back until the 7th of July. Thanks for calling."

What's the deal with this? Anyone else had this problem?

  1. go to your local jobcentre.pick up a jsa from.fill it in.put the date you want it to start 4th july.and hand it in.because it takesa few weeks to process your claim.best of luck.

  2. for simplicity just call them back on the 5thJuly

You are still regarded as a student on the 4th...you are not paid for the first 3 days of a new claim so you will be paid from the 7th. Before you started college you were not a student so could make a claim at any time, now you must wait. If they won't except an advanced claim there is nothing to do but call them on the 5th

Unfortunately it is not as simple as 'just get a form' as In most Jobcentre Plus areas, JSA claims are subject to the Customer Management System.  The claim form is completed during a telephone call.
