Is the phil hughes, joba combo going to have the same result as the kerry wood, mark prior.

Both duos are flamethrowers.

Both have had trips to the DL.

Both are extremely highly regarded.

I really hope this doesnt happen, Will it?!?!

  2. i hope not but that is an intresting comparison but i think Joba is fine but Prior is done and Hughes he may be fine

  3. Hopefully not.

In 1999, the Cubs had c**p, and they rushed Wood and Pryor, and you see what happened.

This isn't the same case with the Yankees, but I do believe that Joba is a reliever and they stretched him too far. Now they have to make sure this doesn't have a mental effect on him, which it very well could. The Cubs also had Dusty Baker and his wrecking crew which didn't help.

  4. No, it should not happen.  The reason is that Wood and Prior never had good pitching mechanics.  Never ever learned to throw using their legs as their major power source.  If you look closely at video of both Wood and Prior you will see that they are both elbow pitchers and not over the shoulder pitchers.  I can't understand why all these high priced pitching coaches have never picked up on it.

As for Joba and Phil, they both have much better basic mechanics.  Both just need to learn how to pitch and not just be throwers.  Once they can do that the control will come and they don't have to throw 98 MPH just to get someone out.

  5. wood and prior have been on and off the disabled list so many times that to predict whether or not they will be next is tough. also, phil hughes is not nearly as important to the Yankees as Chamberlain is. nor is he as important as wood is and prior was for the Cubs.  Chamberlain might need to rely less on his curve for a while however

  6. Mark Prior was the most overrated piece of c**p that never played.  Cubs fans basically thought he was the messiah to their team and there was nothing that would be able to stop him.  Joba is a little different than that, at least we've seen him start, in the majors.

  7. i can see phil hughes being a kerry wood or mark prior, but i dont think joba will be on the Dl for too long in his career. i think phil hughes and carl pavano will be the next kerry wood and mark prior

  8. Interesting comparison. Joba has had some injury problems throughout his career but I think he will be fine. I'm not sure about Phil Hughes, though.

  9. No. Or I hope not. I think that Joba got injured because of the Texas heat. Also Phil Hughes had cracked rib. That won't happen again. I think they won't. This is the first time Joba got injured.

  10. the possibility of injuries is very difficult to project. most pitchers land on the DL sometime in their career though. Most aren't as injury prone as the two cubbies you mention.
