Joba Chamberlain looking to enter 2013 season with no worries – MLB Update
New York Yankees’ hard throwing pitcher Joba Chamberlain is looking forward to a spring that might finally feel like business as usual. There are no words to describe Chamberlain’s first six seasons with the Yankees. Perhaps, that is why, he is not looking
at 2013 as a season during which he has to prove himself.
While mingling with fans at Yankee Stadium and accepting donations for the Sandy Hurricane victims, a slim looking Chamberlain claimed that he is ready for the upcoming season. After having two surgeries over the past two years, he is finally ahead of schedule
with no injuries to monitor.
The 27-year-old had Tommy John surgery and then fractured his ankle during the rehab. The ankle injury last season forced him out of the game until August.
Chamberlain improved his game with each passing match to finish the season on an extremely competitive note.
"Obviously, it didn't go the way I wanted it to the first few weeks," he said of his return in August 2012. "It [playoffs] didn't end the way we wanted it to, but to know how I finished, just to have that ability to do that, I'm just looking forward to going
out there and not having to worry about anything."
"I've really been going for almost two years straight, rehabbing and getting going," he further added. "I'm just kind of being a dad now. I think that's more of a workout."
The relief pitcher is now looking to build off the post-season, where he did not allow a run in four games. Chamberlain also seemed to have lost a lot of weight and is looking physically fit.
Unlike previous years when he was unsure of his position in the pitching rotation, Chamberlain is not worried about the pitching spot he will be playing.
With relief pitcher Rafael Soriano turning down the qualifying offer from the Yankees and veteran Mariano Rivera also showing no signs of returning, it will be easy for Chamberlain to grab one of the pitching spots.
It will be interesting to see if Chamberlain can put in a good performance during the 2013 Major League Baseball season.
