Joba Chamberlain officially ends feud with Kevin Youkilis – MLB New York Yankees News
New York Yankees relief pitcher Joba Chamberlain has asked new teammate Kevin Youkilis to put differences behind them. Despite bad blood in the past when Youkilis was playing for the Boston Red Sox, Chamberlain reached out as he phoned up to welcome him
in New York, the source further claimed.
After holding on to a feud for so many years, Chamberlain decided to bury the split with his new Yankees’ teammate. The feud between these two players has now officially come to end, reports nydailynews.com.
According to sources, Chamberlain is thrilled to have Youkilis playing in pinstripes and he even reached with a phone call to welcome his old enemy from the Red Sox.
Youkilis had a decent time on the plate for the Red Sox last season as he hit .235 with .745 on base percentage, 19 home runs and 60 RBI’s.
“Youkilis hit .333 (5-for-15) with a home run and an eye-popping .535 on-base percentage against Chamberlain before joining the Yankees. He hasn’t returned Chamberlain’s call yet, but the reliever is looking forward to getting to know Youkilis as they share
the same clubhouse this spring”, said Mark Feinsand of New York Daily News.
“We’re both grown men, we both like to play the game,” Chamberlain said. “We’ll continue to move on. I’m glad he’s in our uniform and hopefully he can hit a few balls to right field over the fence for us and not against me like he’s done before.”
It will not be wrong to say that the Red Sox were unable to get the best out of him in 2012 and now the Yankees look forward to having his services. With Youkilis in the batting lineup, it seems the Yankees are ready to go out to defend their American League
East Division title.
Youkilis has enjoyed great success against Chamberlain over the course of his career. He is .333 with a home run and on outstanding .535 on base percentage against his new Yankees’ team mate. But the right hander is yet to return the call from Chamberlain.
It will be interesting to see if the two players can get over their differences to help the Yankees succeed.
