Why should people be allowed to sit around all day doing nothing, and claim benefits?? If you are genuinely unable to work - sorry.

However i know people who claim to be ill or unable to work - but are able to get to the benefits office fill in the complicated paperwork and open a bank account to put there freebees in. There is a job for eveyone somewhere, work or lose benefits what do you say??

  1. am with you let the gits do something then they might get a job thats better paid

  2. It's much better for peoples mental health to keep busy.

  3. I agree.

  4. In some countries you only have access if you paid a specific deduction for a reasonable period of time. Benefits are better distributed if the system is not only well draw but also checks for possible abusers.

Loads of countries are with big employment problems and maybe new challenges are on the way for new sources of profit.

If one doesn't need it is bad to have it, mainly if doesn't even try to have any job

  5. I agree!

It's especially the ones who are 'job seeking' but turn up drunk to interviews and thus get turned down.

Work for charities or community work or lose the benefits.

You're right - they can turn up for their pay, and they used to queue for hours at the post offices, so they can get off their lazy, drunken arses and get a job.

    Won't happen tho.

  6. Maybe those on job-seekers allowance should do the equivalent number of hours of community work that their benefit equates to in relation to the minimum wage.

That might encourage them to look for a job at a better hourly rate.

  7. You for pres.

  8. Yes... they should. You should run for government office so you can change these things. If there were more people like you in government who thought this way, the world would be a better place and there wouldn't be as many leeches.

  9. I have to ask the same question, are you talking disability or unemployment?  If it's disability, they've been declared by a doctor to be unable to do such work.  If it's unemployment, that system pays for itself by employer contributions, and only lasts for about 6 months, during which time the person collecting is supposed to be looking for work.  As far as the paper work, unemployment can be done over the phone or online, and what if they had the bank account set up before they were jobless?  Actually, the same can be said for disability, that can be done online as well, with the only in person stuff being the visit to the state doctor.  Now, if you're talking about welfare, you can't just sit and get a check anymore (and haven't for close to ten years now).  Those on welfare must have minor children that they care for, and must do 30 hours of an approved work activity in order to continue to get their checks.  This benefit only lasts for 3-5 years and then they're cut off.

Sure, there are people who try to bilk the system, but not as many as people think, and it's getting harder for them to do it these days.

  10. well stated that man

  11. There are plenty of charities crying out for volunteers, why not facillitate a scheme where us unemployed, could work for them. Not all of us on the dole are doing it because we like it. I'm on the dole because after a period on the sick, I can't seem to find an employer willing to give me a chance. There are many in my position. If the DWP would make it easier, and encourage, and facilitate entry into charity, or other valuable socially oriented work, They would have a human resource available of over a million people. Compulsion would be a bad idea, opening up the option would be far better. M.

  12. I agree totally, but there should also be help for them to get a proper job, or even to go back to having 3 options thrown at them, if they dont take any they lose benefits. I am out of work at the moment only because I have just finished school and looking for work...I am hating sitting at home! Dont know how people do it, but I would feel ashamed to claim money for doing nothing

  13. Absolutely!!!

  14. Are you talking disability or unemployment?  The system is to help those who are willing and able to work pay their bills while in the process of looking for work.  It's wrong when someone who is able to work takes advantage of the system to take time off.  Picking up litter and doing community work is not going to pay the bills.  I think those who are found violating the system should be doing the litter picking and a lot of community service to pay their dues for taking from people who really need the help while unemployed.

  15. If you are ill you don't go to the benefits office to complete the paperwork, it is done over the phone, as it the paperwork for job seekers. The fact that you can fill in paperwork and open a bank account doesn't mean you can get a job. Would you give a job to someone just because they can spell their name?

To make people comply with this regime you would need more paperwork, lots of of pen pushers to organize and run the scheme, at a massive cost to the taxpayer. then you would really have something to complain about. And if litter picking, toilet cleaning and community work are things that are vital in our society why arent they already viable sources of employment (well toilet cleaning is)?

And you really need to think this through logically. Is there sufficient work for unqualified people to undertake for 37 hours per week, plus the expense of running it, with the consequences of not doing it being homelessness, families splitting up cos they have nowhere to live, the cost of fostering the children of the homeless and the cost of re-educating, rehabilitating and rehousing them once the ills of homelessness set in. And finally, if these people are to work for £60.50 for a 37 hour week, what implications does that have for those of us in employment?
