  1. Hate to be totally contradictory but there most certainly is NOT a shortage of health care workers in this country - most definitely and especially not in the nursing sector

If anything, there is over-employment in this sector, which has contributed to our less than perfect (putting it mildly!) hospital system.

As for your husband, his experience is a bonus....but jobs such as this are hard to come by nowadays....especially considering the vast amount of (both legal and illegal) immigrants (from poor new EU countries) in Ireland.

Unfortunately, unemployment is rising every single year due to the declining economy....

I think many things have caused this (especially the weak dollar against the Euro) but, as i said, Irelands economy is struggling to cope.....

People, because of rising living costs (which, by the way, are already colossal), have much less expenditure for luxuries etc...

In a nutshell, if youre seeking a "prosperous" "booming economic" country, youre looking in the wrong direction.......or at least youre looking here at the wrong time.

According to my Business teacher, even for us (my year), employment here will prove very difficult, even with our high skill levels and qualifications.

I imagine it would be even harder for outsiders

To be honest (and not trying to put you off) but i cant see a worse time to move here....

On top of everything else, mortgages etc... are very hard to come by as a result of new policies (i cant remember the name, sorry!) which are designed to reduce bad debts etc, which are widespread....

I think the next few years are going to be difficult for Ireland, its economy and the people

Sorry to seem pessimistic and whatnot, but i am being truthful at the very least.

  2. Nice to see you're interested in moving here. Now, just to let you know, salaries may seem a bit high, but things are alot more expensive here.

With seven years supervisory experience, I can't see your husband having problems getting a job. Also there is a serious shortage of healthcare workers here so you should be fine.

Best bet is to check is the hse website (health service executive) for some background on how the system is structured and then check around monster.ie, jobs.ie etc just to get a feel for what's needed.

For your husband, check the same sites, obviously in different categories, and check individual websites for large companies, such as kerry foods etc.

    Hope this helps

  3. Go to http://www.allthingsshannon.com I see they have some interesting links and look at the VISA info

  4. If you have good english with your qualifications and experience you'll easily find good and well paid jobs.

For online job ads check www.jobs.ie, www.irishjobs.ie. www.monster.ie, www.loadzajobs.ie, www.recruitireland.ie. It will take some time before you get a job (usually you have to go through a recruitment agency, so you'll have to meet the recruitment consultant, who then will fix you the interview with the company... ), but you can find a temporary job in a bar/hotel or call centre that will pay the rent while you look for the job you want. Good luck.

  5. please please dont move here its awful, i have been here with my mom and dad 11 years and am planning a move home next year now im 18. its dull, wet cold all the time. education is c**p. the health service  is appaling. people are dying in corridors in wheelchairs and on beds in halls. disease is rapid thru the hospitals, people going in with a broken arm and coming out with hepititis. please stay in america or wherever you are. dont come here.

  6. Unfortunately the Health board or HSE have a freeze on recruitment of new staff, you'd have to go to private hospitals. Now is not a good time to be a health care worker in Ireland, it seems.

Your husband should be alright, though.
