I am a high school student who wants to be a pediatrician. I plan on volunteering in my local First Aid and Rescue Squad, BUT I also need money. So what kind of jobs are there for students like me who want to get experience in the medical field and also get paid? I want to get some experience before i go to college.

  1. Try to find a private ambulance company to work for, or a municipal EMS service.

You could also try and get an ER Tech job or nursing assistant job in a hospital, and depending on how many hours you work, you could get health benefits and tuition reimbursement.

  2. My husband and I have volunteered for the local first aid squad, he is going to PA and me and RN, its awesome training. As far as getting paid, you cna take a BLS (Basic Life Support) class and become a hospital technician where you will work alongside doctors and nurses treating patients in a hospital setting. OR you could take a 3 month Emergency Medical Technician class as long as you are 16 (in most states) and make a little money working on an ambulance treating patients in an emergency setting. It all depends on what you want to do. If youw ant to work treating kids in a doctors office (private practice) or hospital, be a tech in the hospital (also, if they don't have BLS you can take nursing aides classes at local vocational schools) or go to your EMT school and work in the hospital (that certification works for both ambulance AND hospital work, I highly suggest it and it will help youg et more out of your first aid squad experience. Or you can work on an ambulance if you wish to work with emergency pediatric cases, like in a Ped ER or trauma center. Either way, good luck.

Oh, PS, most colleges have ambulance services you can work for as a student and earn some cash while going through school as well.
