  1. You need to contact the mines individually. The jobs they addvertise in the big employment sites are ussaully for the larger salary jobs. Now this gets a little tricky but yellow pages, job adverts, and the internet come in handy. Just find the mines name and contat them directly through phone and ask to be put through to the employment section. From there just let them know what it is you would like. Mining jobs are found alot through word of mouth and living in the areas the mines are in. Oh and keep at them, ring them or e-mail them often or else you wont ever hear from them. Although your hubbies should be doing the rining after you have found the places and let them know your hubbie is interested in getting a job as a plumber/labourer. But please don't listen to the amazing wages that have been plastered all over the tv as those jobs are out there but not in the demand they are saying. Good Luck!

  2. Try QR (queensland rail ) ,,they do all the haulout for the mines,,so if you cant get into the mines directly these companys need staff to man their depots,,and there  are heaps of them,,,,little towns on the outskirts of the big mines !

  3. There shouldnt be any problem getting a job experianced or not. because of there turn over rate.

  5. I am in Mt isa, QLD, which is a huge mining town. My hubby and i moved here so that he could get a job in the mines also. We heard so much talk about how easy it was  and that they are screaming for people and the wages are huge etc. All those stories get exagerrated and blown out of proportion. There are jobs available here, but generally, it is friends of the employees that get the jobs. Because current employees can hand their friends resume directly to their supervisor. So it is not as easy as people make it out to be. Unless you are a fully qualified tradesman. It is easier to get work if you are. There are so many people to compete against if you are just a general truck driver etc. Having said that, beause most people move here to work in the mines, other truck companies pay around $25 - $30 hr. So there is still good money to be made. There is a huge shortage of tradesman up here. They have been advertising for plumbers & advertising big $. There are only a few up here and they cannot keep up with the demand. You could always move and your husband can make contacts while he is a plumber. With persistence it will pay off and he will be able to get in. Also, not always do they want people with experience. I have heard many times that they like inexperienced truck drivers, so that they can teach them the way they want them taught. Try the website below, they own the Mt Isa mines and have a carrers section with available jobs.
