  1. Yes, it's fair.  Your credit report speaks volumes about your judgment and sense of responsibility.  It also alerts potential employers as to whether you are a risk for theft.

  2. I understand why they do it.  If you have totally wrecked your credit, or had to declare bankruptcy, it might reflect poorly on your ability to manage your personal affairs.  I don't agree they should do it, though.  It's a back door through which they can see a lot of things about you that they aren't supposed to know (things like marital status, age, etc.).  They might even be able to tell if you have kids, or if you have charged off medical bills they might have an idea about your health.  I think that if it's illegal to ask that in an interview, they shouldn't be able to look at your credit and see it for themselves.  It's just too personal.  Instead, they should maybe do a public records search and see if you have ever been sued for non-payment or declared bankruptcy.

  3. Seems fair to me, depending on the business.

As an example, I own a small accounting firm that does a lot of consulting work.  My company often advises small businesses on how to handle their finances.  I won't hire anyone who can't manage their own - how would they provide good service to my clients?  I can understand temporary troubles due to life difficulties, but I can't hire someone with habitually bad credit.

  4. No I don't think it is fair.  It's B.$ as a matter of fact!  In bad times, such as now the economy being in the toilet.  Many people are loosing their jobs, due to cutbacks, going out of business.  sometimes it's a tough choice to pay your bills or put food on the table and a roof over your head when your unemployed.  I don't think you can judge someones charterer by a credit report.

  5. Credit scores aren't really fair to begin with.  First of all the formula's used by the bureaus are a well guarded secret, that is BS.  Second of all they want you to pay for your score, if it's mine what the h**l am I paying for?  As far as employers getting in on this game, it's just the natural progression of our over complex system in America, get used to it.

  6. Since a credit score only takes into account that you did or didn't pay your bills and doesn't look at mitigating circumstances, no I don't believe it's fair for an employer to check your credit to make a character decision.

  7. No things is fair or unfair in this real life!  just face with it. They have a right to do so and we have a right not to accept.

    Good Luck!
