Jocelyn Rae thrashes opponent to claim Gold at Delhi CWG
Jocelyn Rae, the charming golden haired and long legged girl from England was continuously being talked about throughout the evening. Though her spectators usually fall for her looks, this time it was her performance in the finals that was on everyone’s
lips.
The performance of the young tennis player attracted not only the domestic spectators; her supporters also came all the way from Scotland to encourage her during the match. While playing against much renowned and pre-favourite of the games, Anastasia Rodionova
and Paul Handley from Australia with the aim to pursue the third gold for the country in the mixed doubles of the games, she was fully supported by the huge crowd hailing from Scotland.
The doubles match was rather enthralling as each movement of the players was applauded by the spectators. As Rae delivered the match against Anastasia Rodionova and Paul Handley along with her partner with a rather marvellous score of 7-6, 6-7 and 6-2, Anastasia
Rodionova and Paul Handley left the field in tears amid failing to bag the gold.
As the game started, her opponent pair hailing from Australia raced to 4-0 in the opening set, where games started looking absolutely one sided, but Rae and her partner Fleming fought back and took the set by 7-6.
Since it was just the fourth time Rae and Fleming were playing together, they somehow failed to strike the killer blow during the second set, and despite of putting their best efforts for at least a tiebreak, they went down by 7-6 and the pre-favourites
succeeded in levelling it up.
However, the pair came back into the game as the 19-year-old Rae proved to be rather wise by holding the twice before sending a splendid return down the line with 5-2 to rightly claim the third gold for Scotland. Before hitting the final match, Rae was considered
to be quite careless with her serve, however, thanks to her struggle for dwelling upon the ground work that she finally succeeded in hitting the winning line that have launched her tennis career in a remarkable way.
The spectators that were supporting Rae, every time she played a good shot chanted “Jocelyn” instead of “Scotland” to show her their support. As the match proceeded, the thrill observed among the spectators went on increasing. According to an expert, though
Rae played marvellous, however in overcoming her rivals, the support from the spectators played an integral role. Despite of the marvellous success bagged for Scotland, when she was approached by the media the girl said that she was not at all interested in
pursuing her career with mixed doubles.
She further said that mixed doubles were not being played in a lot of tournaments. Though the game itself is amazing and perhaps she would have to decide about what happens next in this regard. She said that she was still playing singles and that was what
she was primarily focusing upon.
Commenting upon her gold victory, she said that the match was a replay of whole of her professional career. The Scottish supporter sitting right behind her kept supporting her and that proved to be a great help in raising her morale time and again. Moreover,
she also thanked the Indian spectators who extended her the support to perform well during her final.
While talking about her trip to India, Rae said that it had been fun being at Delhi Commonwealth games. She said that throughout the event she enjoyed continuous support from the local spectators. Leaving aside a few initial mishaps which all the athletes
from around the globe had to face, she said, overall it was an amazing experience being there. She further said that if she would be called again to play on the Indian soil, she would love to participate here again.
