Jochen Mass Thinks Schumacher ‘Can Win Again’
Some people are bound to stay under the spot light no matter what they do. Sometimes they get highlighted for doing something big and at other moments they have all eyes on them for doing nothing at all. One such figure is the current Mercedes’ driver, Michael Schumacher.
He has been able to magnetize media personnel and race lovers throughout the span of his career and has now returns to the track after a break of no less than three years and has been able to grasp all that attention and focus all over again. But this time it’s not his great performances that are being talked about but the lack of performance altogether, his trademark skill seem to have vanished.
During the past couple of months he had been immensely disapproved on the track and has been criticized for showing poor racing abilities since his return. Most analysts and commentators accuse him of performing the worst in his life during the past few Grand Prix’s of the season. Many people have even commented on the fact that he had made a fatal mistake by coming back to the racing track after his retirement as this has only damaged his image of being the world’s most successful racer.
Amidst all the harsh words there are a few who still think that the German is capable of showing wonders on the track. Jochen Mass, a former race car driver from Germany, is one of the few people who had been closest to Schumacher, and with such knowledge of Shumacher commented about him. Last week Mass said that the record-breaking multiple F1 World Champion, despite his disappointing return “can win again”.
Looking at the charts currently it seems unbelievable that the most successful driver in F1 history stands with a tally of just thirty six points with his highest finish at fourth place during the last ten Grand Prix’s. This comparing to the ‘Schumi’ style that always created terror and fear on the track, now just makes it seem as though he is hardly more than a mere shadow of his former self.
All his supporters claim that the car has not been up to the mark, but does that not seem like an excuse? But the fact is that proof can be found of his horrendous driving, if one compares the performances of the 41-year-old racer with his young teammate Nico Rosberg, who is driving the same car and has been able to claim twice as many points as him.
But still, Mass, the fellow citizen of 91-time grand prix-winner, Shumacher, says that it is only ill-fate that the racer has been overshadowed this season, and that he could still claim a victory if he can find a little luck.
Mass, who had mentored Schumacher on the Mercedes’ junior racing programme about sports cars earlier in the year 1990, said that he had been in constant contact with him and what he sees is that the same charisma and energy is still present in Schumacher. He said that what makes him fall behind Rosberg is the difference of plenty of miles that the latter has had on seat. The car used three years back was nothing like the one used today by Mercedes.
He concluded by saying that one days soon the driver might just happen to get lucky again. Of course Michael Schumacher fans are anticipating the day as well, as they wish to see the wonders on the track that he had shown in the past.
