Jockey Joseph O’Brien guides Nevis and Unanimous to brilliant victories at Leopardstown on 19th July, 2012
The 2-year-old, Nevis, showed the potential star power of Aidan O’Brien’s 2-year-old string this year, when he landed the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden on 19th July, 2012.
Hosted at Leopardstown and covering a distance of 1 mile on a soft track, the two-year-old runner handled the large distance well and came out on top.
Paired with rider Joseph O’Brien, the son of Dansili, out of mare Moonstone, raced as a favourite with a 4 to 6.
Nevis bested John Patrick Shanahan trained, Ralston Road, by a margin of three lengths, who was ridden by jockey, Colin O'Donoghue.
The third place was secured by, Mister Aviation, while the fourth, fifth and sixth place were taken by Military Device, Polished Rock and Seussical, respectively.
The winning rider was pleased with the results of the race as he commented:
"He came on from his first run.
"It wasn't ideal to make the running but when there's no pace you have to make the best of it.
"He's a nice horse and going the right way."
Owned by Mrs John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith, the young runner’s debut was less impressive, as he lost the victory by 5 ¾ lengths his stable-mate, The United States, in the seven furlong Barronstown Stud European Breeders Fund (C & G)
Maiden at Curragh on 1st July, 2012.
Joseph O’Brien doubled up on the same card, when he landed the Leopardstown.com Maiden with, Unanimous, which covered the same distance of a mile.
The son of Dansili, foaled by Dixieland Band mare Sharp Lisa, raced as a favourite with a 4-7 chance of winning
The 3-year-old bay colt finished 1 ¼ lengths ahead of Massini's Trap, who was ridden by Declan McDonogh, while Gumption finished third on the day.
The Aidan O’Brien trained colt showed that, he was in good form on 15th July, 2012, when he competed in the Family Funday At Fairyhouse Maiden over seven furlongs.
The runner tried his best but, lost the victory to Encrypted Message by half-length. This performance showed that he is a talented runner ready to take on some big races in the future.
