Jockey Peterjon Carberry banned for 40 days – Horse Racing Update
It has been reported that British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has banned the champion jump jockey Peterjon Carberry for 40 days for being unable to ride out to the winning post for the second time in almost a year.
After his ride on the race-horse Monty’s Moon at the Uttoxeter race-course on the April 30, he was referred to the disciplinary hearing of BHA. He is the brother of the celebrated jockeys Paul, Philip and Nina.
The race-horse Monty’s Moon could win the Get Live Football Stats At Totesport.com Novices’ Handicap Hurdle. He was the 100-30 favourite for this race but Carberry let him loose after the final flight.
In his defence, Carberry said that he misunderstood another mark that was present some yards before the finishing line for the actual finishing mark and so he eased the race-horse. This resulted in the defeat of the race-horse by two of his other rivals
on the field. This is not the first time the jockey has had problems with this issue before.
The disciplinary panel of BHA probed into the matter on Thursday to declare whether the jockey did what he did on purpose or was he actually mistaken by the mark that he considered the winning post. At the end of the investigation, the representatives of
the disciplinary committee concluded that the jockey failed to ride until the end of the race.
The statement that was issued by BHA said, “The matter was referred by the stewards on duty at Uttoxeter because this was the second occasion within 12 months that Carberry had forfeited a place as a consequence of a failure on his part to ride out to the
winning post.”
The other time when the jockey did something similar was at the Sandown race-course back in November 2010 when he was banned from the sport for ten days after it was alleged he lost the third place for the race-horse Maurisca.
After the Uttoxeter event, the alleged jockey was obliged to apologise and that he did and claimed that it was a genuine mistake.
