Jockey Sean Paterson suspended on doping grounds
The National Horse Racing Authority has banned the jockey Sean Paterson after his urine sample was tested positive for an illegal chemical.
The jockey, who is a competitor of the work riders’ series, was tested at Turffontein race course on the 11th of September. The analysis of his urine specimen determined the presence of the banned chemical furosemide. His current ban is of six
weeks on conditions that he does not violate the law again.
Trainer Alec Laird hired the jockey Pitchblack in the first race that was run at Turffontein on Monday evening. Before his suspension, Paterson has enjoyed significant success in work rider’s races that were held this racing season.
Pitchblack has the potential to challenge the two runners Furling Sail and Hail The Tiger, if he can maintain his performance and score similar results as previously, where he finished three lengths behind Land Baron at the Vaal.
While on the other hand, another jockey Andrew Fortune was also found guilty of stopping riding before the race ended, when he was riding the racehorse Noblewood at Durbanville on the 6th of October. Although he finished second in this meet, he
was asked to hand over R20000 to the National Horseracing Authority, after he was found guilty of the offence.
Andrew has been booked for six races that are scheduled to be run at Turffontein track tonight. He will be riding the racehorse September Wind in the ninth meet of the evening. The racehorse is the son of Western Wind out of the mare from Germany Pailita
of R500000. September Wind runs for the Gary Alexander stable.
One of the other horses that will be running tonight include the Singapore based sprinter Rocket Man. The racehorse is owned by Fred Crabbia and will be contending the Grade II race scheduled for the evening.
Another strong contender of the meet is Gossamer. She has also been sired by Western Wind and is trained by Paul Matchett. He won the debut meet at the Vaal at 20-l. Nonetheless, she finished the next event in the fourth place, as she was held off by Kapow.
Meanwhile, the trainer of the filly Dancewiththedevil, St John Gray is expecting his racehorse to win the third race of her career as she is heading to compete with 11 competitors in her sixth career start at Turffontein.
