Jockey Tammi Piermarini joins the league of females who have already struck their 2,000th win
Horse racing can clearly be seen as a partnership sport, it’s just between the jockey and the horse once they are on the track to either race through the wire or struggle behind the lead. It is quite an interdependent career because each victory or defeat
impacts the partnership accordingly.
When it comes to setting records, Tammi Piermarini is the name that clicks the mind straight away. On 22 August, 2011, Tammi got to the racing program at Suffolk Downs with 1998 career wins. She rode in seven races that day from a total of nine.
She progressed gradually, beginning her career in 1985 as Tammi Campbell, being able to gather 986 wins through 1998. From 1999 to date, she has won 1,012 now as Tammi Piermarini (due to her husband who is also her agent) making a total of 1,998 victories.
As per records there are four women jockeys in North America’s racing history who were able to make their mark at 2,000.first in the line is Julie Krone with an impressive 3,704, followed by Rosemary Home with 2,438 which is still subject to rise and Vicki
Baze who has amassed 2,019 victories and is still active.
“My next stepping-stone is to move up to fourth all-time, then keep going,” Piermarini said. “I may never get to Julie [Krone]. She is my idol.”
The most recent entry to this league is Tammi Piermarini who claimed the 2,000th victory just this Monday. She is 44 and was born in Massachusetts where most of her time was spent on the family farm in Salisbury, according to her data. Next she
was eager to start working with the Thoroughbreds as an exercise rider for various horses.
The media guide at the Suffolk Downs, Tammi won her second riding title at the same place. At the moment she is riding exclusively at Suffolk Downs being the leading rider for the 2011 meet with 60 wins.
Her fans are delighted for her and would be anxious to see her reaching for more soon and also that she might just be able to change her ranking within the league in the near future. She is strong headed as far as her future goals are concerned, she is proactive
and have planned accordingly.
