Jockey or Equine vet?

Question

I don't know which career path to go with!I'd really love both but thats not really an option....I'm 19 and doing an equine science degree which can lead to vet med and I also have my conditional jockey licence and ride out regularly...

I would go with your heart.  Which one do you love the most?  Which one do you see yourself being happiest doing?  Equine vet would be more long term or steady and the pay would probably be better.  While being a jockey would probably be more fun unless you can get enough mounts everyday and good horses to get on you will most likely be living from pay check to pay check.  Also being a jockey is not always a long time career.  There is such things as injuries, weight issues, etc. that can cause a jockey to retire even before they are too old to ride.  So even if you decide to become a jockey it is good to have something to fall back on in case something happens to shorten your riding career.  But I would do what makes you the happiest and good luck with whichever you decide.

Well I think that you probably are already leaning towards one direction or the other. I think that it is probably a more feasible long-term career to be a vet, but it takes a long time and a lot of money to get your degree. Are you getting rides now at the track? If so are you getting enough to live on? When you think about your life 20 years from now what do you see? Do you see yourself as a jockey (retired at that point) or do you see yourself as a vet? 'Vet 100% good money etc, you will have to be a good pilot to make it in NH ,then theres  the risk of a bad fall then your fxxxxd + girls dont cut the ice in NH (that'll get a few thumb downs, but its true) Additional details "" look at their sir names , femail jockeys will never be as strong as male jockeys, 19 a lass and breaking them in, your boss is using you as cannon fodder.
