Jockey weights?

Okay, I'm 5'7'' and am about 117 lbs. (I'm 14, almost 15) I've been riding almost entire life, have a off the track TB, and would like to be a jockey when I'm an adult. I know I'm rather tall, but I've heard of jockeys who are even taller than me, and besides, and my doctor says I'm done growing. I'm pretty light, though, so do you think this is possible for me?

  1. you better stop growing and not gain anymore weight to have a chance.

  2. there is no specific  hight, but they would prefer you to be smaller. And you have to be under i believe its 120lbs. So you should be all set for now if your done growing.

Also, if you get just a few pounds to heavy, you dont have to dump the idea! You can still be an exersize rider or a trainer and work behind the seen of all the racing. Even though the race is the most exciting part, you still get to help with the process that helps the horse get there...!!!

    Hope this helps!

  3. There are no height limits for jockeys but there are weight limits. Those weight limits vary in races run under the "scale of weights" rule, sometimes referred to as "weight for age," which is a fixed weight assigned to races and based on the age of the horse, the distance of the race, and the racing calendar. Those weight limits are much lower early in the racing season but increases in mid-season and then increases to even higher limits in late season. And the scale of weights includes full tack weight and the weight of the jockey dressed in full gear. If you are 15-years-old and weighing 117 pounds you may have difficulty unless you stop growing now, which is not likely. You are still growing and while there are no height limits, with height comes weight (bone mass and muscle). But there is considerable pressure on the thoroughbred racing industry to modify or scrap the current "scale of weights" rule and for health reasons raise the MINIMUM weight for jockeys to 118 pounds. So there is hope for you if that happens. I tend to think it will. Even now, a jockey weighing 118 pounds would have no problem making weight with full gear and tack in the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes, which is 126 pounds for geldings, though jockeys mounting fillies in those races would have to weigh a lot less than 118 pounds because weight with tack and gear on fillies in those races is 121 pounds and the saddle and girth alone weighs about three pounds. Add to that three pound saddle a 118 pound jockey and his/her racing gear, including a race safe helmet and undervest weighing about 1 pound each, and he/she will be well over the 121 pound weight limit for fillies.

  4. I do not think your done going yet ??

Your height is a bit tall ,,but as long as you are limber  TO BE ABLE TO GET REAL LOW ON A HORSE,thats ok

Steeple chase Jockey !!You would be PERFECT ,,

and you have to weigh less then 105 period,, unless a quarter horse  even still thats 110,,,,,,,,, or go  steeple chase,,

sorry , But I was one.. I know

  5. I am almost certin there is an height limit for jockeys involved in TB racing no matter how light you are. Also I believe the weight limit is 120. Hope this helps.

  6. I am in the exact boat but GO FOR IT...I'm 5'6 and about 117 I exercise race horses now and hope to be a jockey one day!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!
