Jockeys and horse owners accused by British Horseracing Authority
The British Horseracing Authority has singled out four jockeys and one former jockey by charging them with indulging in serious breaching of the rules of horseracing laid down.
These are not the only one who have been charged by the BHA. Sharing the blame are two licensed owners as well as a few other involved in the breach of rules.
The conduct that the accused party is being held guilty for is to have intentionally made certain horses lose races so that money could be won on the bets that they had previously made. The time period during which the accused party was involved in such
actions was from January 17, 2009 till August 15, 2009.
In all, there are 13 people who have been charged with the breaching of the rules. Out of these, the jockeys include Paul Doe, Greg Fairley, Kirsty Milczarek, Jimmy Quinn and Paul Fitzsimons. Fitzsimons was previously a jockey but he has given up the job
and now focuses solely on the training of horses. The owners out of the accused 13 include the names of Maurice Sines and James Crickmore among others. Both Sines as well as Crickmore are license holders.
According to the rule 201(v), the guilty party is accused of indulging in the planning of conducting fraud related to the horseracing. The jockeys have received a further allegation that places them under a breach of rule 243. This holds them guilty of receiving
and sharing information with people who have an account in the betting exchanges related to the races that were held during the time period specified.
Chris Brand, who is the acting chief of the BHA made the following comments while announcing the charges, “The charges issued by the Authority today are the result of a lengthy, detailed and complex investigation, following suspicious betting activity on
more than one betting exchange and with traditional bookmakers.”
Having said that, Brand also added that the details of the charges will not be gotten into as that would be unfair to the accused party.
What the fate of the of the accused will become, only time will tell.
