Jody Scheckter puts Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton at top – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 driver, Jody Scheckter has said that according to him, Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton are the best drivers in the field and shunned Fernando Alonso for whom he has lost respect.
Vettel is certainly one of the most talented drivers in the sport as he has successfully claimed his third consecutive world championship title in this season just in the age of 25.
Furthermore, Hamilton has also delivered some remarkable performances in his career so far and has won one championship title with McLaren back in 2008.
On the other hand, Alonso has also been considered as one of the greatest drivers in the world of autosport as he has achieved so much in his career until now. He won two consecutive world championship titles and became the first ever Spaniard to claim the
drivers’ trophy.
Additionally, he performed tremendously well in this season even with an incompetent car and lost the championship to Vettel only by three points.
However, Scheckter has said that he has lost respect for the two-time world champion and for him, Vettel and Hamilton are the best drivers in F1.
“I always put Vettel and Lewis together as the top two,” he said.
“I probably have to put Alonso into that but I would probably pick those two drivers, yeah,” the 1979 world champion added.
“I think what he did when he was at McLaren has just put me off him for life, I suppose,” the 62-year-old explained. “I think he drove well this year, there’s no question about that, he’s doing a good job on that, but when somebody does something like that
you lose respect for them.”
Besides, he said that the British driver has impressed him a lot right from the start of his career back in 2007. He also said that the 27-year-old is the best driver on a track in heavy traffic.
In addition, he said that although he used to rate Hamilton’s teammate, Jenson Button quite low, but after this season he has changed his mind and now considers him one of the most talented drivers in the field.
