Joe Bartoch earns Men’s 100m butterfly gold - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Joe Bartoch of LAC earned gold medal of the Men’s 100m butterfly on day five of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Saturday, March 31.
Bartoch met expectations of his supporters by sustaining his spot in the final round. With his scintillating swim, he stayed in a prominent lead over his challengers and stepped on the medal rostrum for gold medal.
His alluring effort remained more than a second away from his strongest competitor and Bartoch finished first with the timing of 53.01 seconds. He was trailed by Kourosh Ahani of RHAC, who stayed 1.07 seconds behind and reached the victory stand for silver medal by producing a time of 54.08 seconds.
Ahani enjoyed an advantage of 0.22 seconds over Stefan Hirniak of IS, who secured third finest position of the discipline and reached the podium for bronze medal by clocking a time of 54.30 seconds.
The bronze medallist remained 0.07 seconds ahead of Jake Tapp of LOSC, who failed to finish third in the event and clocked a time of 54.37 seconds for fourth position of the discipline.
His impressive performance was followed by Zack Chetrat of TSC, who completed his swim in fifth best place and transpired on the finishing end with the timing of 54.47 seconds.
Chetrat was followed by Joshua AU of UOFA, who remained considerably slower from his former swimmer and ended his swim by touching the wall with the timing of 55.29 seconds for sixth position.
AU remained 0.24 seconds ahead of his following swimmer Edward LIU of TSC, who settled on the finishing end as seventh position holder by submitting a time of 55.53 seconds.
Liu remained slightly ahead of his following swimmer, Wil Wright of ESWIM, who occupied last position of the discipline. Wright remained 0.04 seconds away from overpowering his preceding swimmer and hit the wall with the timing of 55.57 seconds.
In addition, the session ended after the conclusion of all events in Men and Women’s corner while the position holders received accolades for their gruelling efforts in the 100m discipline at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
