Joe Bartoch wins Men’s 100m butterfly heats - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Joe Bartoch of LAC won the qualification rounds of Men’s 100m butterfly on fifth day of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Saturday, March 31.
The 29-year-old Bartoch enjoyed a comfortable lead over his fellow swimmers and qualified into the final as top contender for gold medal.
His magnificent effort remained 0.60 seconds ahead of Jake Tapp of LOSC and made his way into the final round by producing a time of 53.91 seconds. The 23-year-old Tapp stayed almost half body length slower from his former finisher and touched the finishing blockade with an effort of 54.51 seconds.
His impressive performance was just 0.12 seconds faster from Kourosh Ahani of RHAC, who occupied third best finishing spot of the race by posting a time of 54.63 seconds.
The third fastest swimmer was trailed by Stefan Hirniak of IS, who was only 0.10 seconds behind his preceding swimmer and completed his double lap butterfly swim by posting a time of 54.73 seconds for fourth position.
The fifth fastest spot of the swim was obtained by Zack Chetrat of TSC, who entered the final round as fifth best swimmer by submitting an effort of 54.82 seconds.
Next were the Women’s 100m freestyle prelims, where Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace of BAH snared the top qualification spot of the event by posting a time of 54.28 seconds.
She was chased by Julia Wilkinson of IS, who stayed 0.76 seconds slower from her foregoing competitor and qualified into the final as second best swimmer with the timing of 55.04 seconds.
The 24-year-old Wilkinson stayed just 0.04 seconds ahead of Victoria Poon of PPO, who proved her eligibility for the third fastest spot by reporting an effort of 55.08 seconds.
Poon was followed by Samantha Cheverton of PCSC, who remained 0.63 seconds slower from her and made her way into the playoff by clocking a time of 55.71 seconds.
Subsequently, Erica Morningstar of UCSC accomplished fifth fastest spot of the race as she posted a time of 55.72 seconds.
Furthermore, Bartoch was delighted with his fastest qualification effort and claimed that he will try to achieve the same in final.
