Joe Bonk snares Men’s 100m butterfly gold: Day three – YMCA National LC Championship
Joe Bonk of Triangle Area-NC snared gold medal of the Men’s 100m butterfly on third day of the 2012 YMCA National Long Course Championship at Georgia Institute of Technology Aquatics Center on Wednesday, July 25.
The 18-year-old Bonk displayed his stupendous efforts in the double lap discipline and outsmarted his challengers for gold medal of the event.
Bonk’s astonishing start and gruelling pace played a vital role in his success and he made his way to the finishing blockade for gold medal by clocking a wonderful time of 55.62 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Andrew Yunker of Gr. Flint-MI, who stayed nearly half body length apart and sprinted his way towards the finishing blockade for second position by posting a nice time of 56.28 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Leo Lim of Wyckoff-NJ, who was only 0.01 seconds slower from overpowering the silver medallist and tapped the wall with a fantastic timing of 56.29 seconds.
Similarly, Lim was followed by Joseph Shepley of Cheshire-CT, who 0.02 seconds away from securing bronze medal of the discipline and settled on the finishing end as fourth fastest swimmer with an effort of 56.31 seconds.
The 16-year-old Shepley was chased by Justin Mehl of Middle Tyger-SC, who proved his audacity for fifth fastest spot of the event and hit the wall with an effort of 56.54 seconds.
Mehl was followed by Alex Mango of Somerset Hills-NJ, who remained 0.03 seconds slower and earned sixth fastest spot of the event by producing a time of 56.57 seconds.
Subsequently, Mango was traced by Maxwell Dolan of Wilton-CT, who stayed only 0.20 seconds away from his former finisher and secured seventh position of the event by posting a time of 56.77 seconds.
Eighth position of the discipline was obtained by Ian Wooley of Countryside-OH, who stayed 0.18 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing blockade by submitting a time of 56.95 seconds.
In addition, Bonk received huge appreciation from his fans and stated that he would work hard to excel at the forthcoming swimming events by making a significant improvement in his timing.
