Joe Calzaghe sure that Audley Harrison won’t last against David Haye
Former undefeated super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe has opened up about the upcoming British heavyweight champion between WBA titlist David Haye and European champion Audley Harrison. Calzaghe doesn’t think Harrison stands a chance.
The fight will take place on November 13 at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England. It has already sold over 17,000 tickets and looks to be sold out by fight night.
"I think as far as the fight goes, Haye is a massive favourite to win that fight. I don't think Audley really deserves a chance, as far as a world title fight, but I think because there is a bit of history there, and because it's a domestic battle, [so]
it could make for a decent-sized fight,” Calzaghe mused to Sky Sports.
“But I see Haye winning all day long. I can't see Audley Harrison really having a chance. He has a puncher's chance, but he's not really that big a puncher. I think that Haye will basically win this fight."
Despite winning a gold medal at the 2000 Olympics, many feel that Harrison has not lived up to his potential. The opposite has been true with Haye. He won a silver medal at the World Amateur Championships in 2001, and his resume has been considerably polished
with wins over Monte Barrett, Enzo Maccarinelli, and Nikolai Valuev, from whom he won the WBA title.
Haye is also one of the biggest ticket sellers in British boxing today, equal parts due to his talent in the ring and his willingness to engage in out-of-the-ring antics.
In recent months 'The Hayemaker' has taken criticism from experts for seemingly avoiding legitimate competition in his division, such as Tomasz Adamek or the Klitschko brothers (who hold the IBF/IBO/WBC titles).
Haye has welcomed discussions with Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko, but attempts have quickly become fruitless due to both sides being unable to determine amicable figures.
