Joe Cole, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 on a free transfer in the summer transfer window, finally managed to make a mark at Anfield with a dramatic winner against Bolton on Saturday. Cole, after the match, defended his manager, Roy Hodgson,
and said that the whole team is standing behind the boss.
Liverpool secured a win late in the game when Joe Cole was sent on as a substitute and he got the goal in the last minutes of the game. The win did ease some pressure on Hodgson, whose job has been under debate following the string of poor results by his
team.
Cole said, "We are all behind the manager. We all want to put this club in the right direction. We are out there playing for the shirt and the manager."
Roy Hodgson joined Liverpool in July last year following the departure of Rafael Benitez. But he has not been able to enjoy much success since taking over. Not that the club was going places when he joined, but it certainly was in a slightly better shape
than it is currently.
Liverpool managed to get just 6 points from their first eight matches at the start of the season, and found themselves in the dreaded relegation zone.
The Reds did manage to win 5 of their last 8 matches, but still the 2 big defeats at the hands of the Wolves and Newcastle cost them dearly. Liverpool started the game against Bolton just 3 points away from the relegation zone.
Joe Cole said that the current problems faced by the club are tough, but in a scenario like this the team has to stick together. Cole said that the win was crucial for the team as they were hardly far from the relegation zone. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joe-Cole-c18694, who won 3 League
Titles with Chelsea, said that he did learn at Chelsea that when a team is in turmoil, the only thing they need is unity and support for the manager.
Cole further went on to say that the reports and rumours in the media about their team and the manager do not help the team morale, but at the same time it is the duty of the team not to get bothered by those tabloids and keep the focus on the job at hand.
The right winger asserted that with the new owners and money coming into the club, the future looked good and by sticking together they could make the present much better.
Cole also made a plea to the fans that they should also give Hodgson their support, as earlier when Liverpool lost the game against the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952, Roy Hodgson and the team were booed off the field.
There are reports in the media that Liverpool’s new owners, New http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 Sports Ventures (NESV), who took over in October 2010, are already searching for a replacement for Hodgson. A couple of names like Borussia Dortmund, Jurgen Klopp and former Hoffenheim
coach, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ralf-c30492 Rangnick, have already been mentioned.
The future of Roy Hodgson is completely dependent on the result of Liverpool in the next few games. Despite the support by the players for Hodgson, things are not looking good for the former Fulham boss and he would need a major turnaround in his team’s
fortunes to keep his job. The general feeling is that Hodgson would definitely not be around when the season ends which would be in May this year.
