Joe Cole & Mark Schwarzer targeted by Arsenal, who is next?

News relating to the Chelsea playmaker Joe Cole and the Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer is swirling into the football world faster and faster, so the rumours are heating up and it seems very near when they will be signed.

This decision comes into the haze of another Arsenal campaign where they failed in managing to obtain any silverware. The season was in fact better than the previous as they finished 3rd in the English Premier League and did well elsewhere but this also happened to be ‘the Invincibles’ fifth straight season without a title. Their last win was in the FA Cup in 2005.

This sure would have been enough to take on the nerves of manager Arsene Wenger who at last seems ready to chalk in some world class players in the squad and improve the departments in which it limps behind. Well, the recent rumours indeed suggest that he is up to that.

One of Arsenal’s fundamental section under scrutiny was it’s the goalkeeping department. It has been under heavy denigration by both fans and experts that both Manuel Almunia and second for post Lukasz Fabianski made irreversible errors during the season a number of times that eventually led the performance of Gunners down.

The duo has been failing miserably to set themselves as an example in the team. Their performances were so tainted with mistakes that this season Wenger was forced to try both of them a number of times as to choose who will be the number one choice at the position. The North Londoners have way of playing in which they desperately need a good goalkeeper, with their ailing shows now it seems that both of them will be given the deputy position for some time.

Sources have confirmed that only the signature of Mark Schwarzer are required on a contract to Arsenal now after Wenger made him offer of £3 million.

The bullet proof Australian has had some consistent seasons at Fulham now. At the age of 37 he is still showing remarkable dependability and seems like an ideal substitution in time while Wenger as always sign in a younger player that he will breed and preach at his club.

Apart from that the news that is tumbling the EPL world are on English midfielder Joe Cole. Sources have confirmed that talks are in progress for the free transfer of the ace from the Blues to the Gunners.

This could be a signing that could turn things around for Arsenal. They have already signed in the young Moroccan prodigy Marouane Chamakh. The international star seems to be promising. Also if the controversial transfer of the Spanish superstar Cesc Fabregas comes into action the Arsenal midfield would be covered up by Cole and if the transfer doesn’t take place then the midfield will obviously be better than ever.

The 28 year old Cole has the remarkable ability to be adjustable in all circumstances. He can make to plays in the midfield or cross as a winger. He’ll be even ready to play as a central striker and stun everyone by powerful volleys.

With all this unfolding as an intricate plan build typically by the mind of Wenger one does come to wonder if Wenger got his problems dealt right. Chamakh, Cole and Schwarzer could definitely have a good effect on the team. What Wegner has achieved with this is he still has about £5 million which he probably can get an extension on. That ultimately leads to the question, who for?

Yes, that’s correct if all these signings go into place Wenger could still be looking for one more star signing before the start of the next season, and that comes especially into play if Fabregas has mood not stay.

Still the Frenchman has also to decide about the major part of the Arsenal defence. Defenders William Gallas, Mikael Silvestre, Philippe Senderos, and Sol Campbell will all have to renew their contracts with North Londoners if they are to stay.

This also means that Wenger could consider a couple of defensive options for the club, especially when injuries are easy to come in the English League.

If these signings take place then the Arsenal fans will have at last what they were desiring for the whole season and this would take them to their nest step of a stronger better Arsenal.
