Joe Cole’s Future at Anfield?
Joseph John ‘Joe’ Cole is an English football player, who is all set to join Liverpool in a move that has left more than half of the world in shock and a state of disbelief. The news was made public yesterday evening.
Cole was also being pursued by teams like, Tottenham and Arsenal. Arsenal were the former favourites to sign the player, before the shock move to Anfield took place.
According to numerous sources it is stated that Cole chose to go to Liverpool because they were the only team that was willing to meet his ridiculous wage demands. He is apparently set to be earning around ninety thousand pounds a week.
Cole started his professional career playing for West Ham United where he appeared in over a hundred games over the course of five years. He then left West Ham to join Chelsea. At Chelsea Joe Cole he won a number of trophies, including the English Premiership title on three separate occasions and two FA Cup’s before he left the club on a free transfer in the summer of 2010.
The fans and the players on the Chelsea squad were all left rather confused by the fact that Chelsea let Cole leave the club as a free agent, because Cole was one of the more experienced and influential players at the club.
Many people believed that the reason for him leaving was because of the new coach at the Stamford Bridge, Carlo Ancelotti. However Cole responded to this by saying, “My season for Chelsea wasn't great for what I believe were political reasons rather than footballing reasons,” “I love [the Chelsea manager] Carlo Ancelotti and have big respect for him. My leaving is not financial and it is nothing to do with Carlo. I love him and think he is a top guy and a top manager.”
Cole apparently blamed some political reason for leaving and claimed that money had nothing to do with it. However soon after he was set to leave Carlo Ancelloti went to the media and stated that the sole purpose for him leaving the club was nothing more than an ‘Economic Problem’.
What this concludes to is the fact that, there was probably never any political problem at the club. In fact Joe Cole quite possibly just left Chelsea because he started to get greedy.
The reason being he was getting older by the minute, his constant injury concerns were also something that were taken into account. It was fairly obvious no team was going to want to have a player that was aging and constantly getting injured around for so long. Cole realized that this is what was happening to him at the club so in a last ditch effort to make as much money as he could before he retired he put himself out on the market.
He had numerous offers from various clubs but he said he needed some time off to concentrate on his personal life. However only days after Liverpool made him an offer which saw him making more money than any other team was offering he did not hesitate or think twice before accepting their offer.
Cole earlier stated that he did not wish to leave London under any circumstance, but this begs us to ask the question, why the sudden change of heart?
A move that Cole hoped would earn him the sympathy of millions of fans has actually started to back fire against him. Fans are now left with a sense of anger and hate for the player they once adored and loved.
Cole has a long road ahead of him at Anfield but if he manages to get injured again, that road may get cut in half in an instant. We cannot really say if this move is good or bad for Liverpool, since it has basically come down to the fact as to whether or not Cole will manage to go through a whole season without getting injured. If he does not manage to do just that, then he will definitely be walking alone.
