Joe Delaney outplays Jimmy Robertson in Qualifiers Round 2 of China Open 2011 – Snooker news
Jimmy Robertson has been beaten by the Irish professional Joe Delaney in the qualifiers round 2 of the China Open 2011 by a frame score of 5-3.
The overall score-line was 61-67, 0-60, 91-7, 29-56, 140-0, 0-100, 143-0, and 1-66.
Joe Delaney came up beating Andrew Pagett in round 1 by a 5-2 frame score and is in the round 3 now. Last time, at the start of 2010-11 season, he qualified for the final stages of the Shanghai Masters where he had beaten the likes of Patrick Ensle, Rory
McLeod, and Gerard Greene.
The ‘English Amateur Champion’ Jimmy Robertson was not able to stop Delaney as he is again on the run this time towards the last 32.
The first frame was between the two was very cagey as they were fighting on the colours with the scores neck to neck. However, Delaney was able to have the first blood at the end 1-0. The next frame was much quicker as compared to the first one. Robertson
was not able to pot anything for himself and a break of 55 from Delaney was enough for his second one 2-0.
Robertson in the third frame also bounced back and made a magnificent break of 79 to trail his opponent by 2-1.
The fourth frame was a scrappy affair. Chances were seen coming and going and there was a bout of safety play. The maximum break in this frame was 29 from Robertson but he was not able to do anything afterwards. The frame was won by Delaney as he came on
top of the safety and was now leading Robertson again by two frames 3-1.
From the fifth frame and onwards a much faster and spectacular game from both players was seen.
Robertson wrapped up the fifth frame with two classy breaks of 70 and gave no chance to his opponent before Delaney did likewise in the next one, breaks of 33, 7, and 60, and the scores were 4-2 in favour of the Irish.
Delaney was looking now only for one frame to reach the finish line before he received a bad blow in the next one. Robertson made a mind boggling match-highest break of 138 to move within one frame 4-3.
However, Delaney had no reeling effects and with effective breaks of, 30 and 27, he won the eighth to deal his victory by 5-3. Although, Robertson was on the table first but he was forced to play safe as he went out of the position.
Joe Delaney will now face Mark Joyce in the qualifiers round 3.
