Joe Gibbs Racing driver Kyle Busch battled pain for third place finish at Michigan – NASCAR news
Joe Gibbs Racing team driver, Kyle Busch battled pain to finish third at the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday.
Busch said, “I had a little bit of chest pain early in the race. I don't know what it was from -- [but] it was really hard to breathe. It was right here inside. I couldn't tell you what it was. I don't know. I've never felt that before. I had to take real
short breaths, felt like I was running a 400-mile marathon, which essentially I was -- but I felt like I was running on my feet instead of in a race car.”
He added, “I guess they gave me some Tums and water, and it fixed it. That was all there was to it.”
The crucial role to help Busch was played by crew chief Dave Rogers who helped car no. 18 Toyota driver to feel relieved from an undefined chest pain. Busch said he took some medicine which helped him to relax. He was excited to finish third when he got
out of his no. 18 Toyota.
Busch felt better in many ways as he raced his first weekend after completing a four-week probation and solved the pre-race issue of confiscated oil pans.
Rogers explained the problem as Busch was having gas pains which felt like a chest pain to him. The crew chief decided to add pain relief medicine ‘Tums’ into his water. It really helped Busch to get back at the race and manage a third place at Michigan.
Rogers was pleased to work along Busch at the Michigan race weekend which resulted in third place for no. 18 Toyota Camry team.
Busch has 12 starts in his account at the venue in which he has not been successful. Last season Busch was 20th and 18th in the two events at Michigan. In 2011, despite starting from 24th place on the grid, a third place
finish is quite a success.
