Joe Gibbs Racing driver Kyle Busch wins debut Sprint Cup race at Kentucky – NASCAR news
Joe Gibbs Racing team driver of car no. 18 M&M Toyota, Kyle Busch won the debut Sprint Cup Series race held at the Kentucky Speedway.
Kyle Busch is now tied with Kevin Harvick after collecting his third victory in the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup season. He is now the first driver to win an event from his pole position start. He became the first driver to win the Sprint Cup Series’ inaugural
race at the Kentucky Speedway.
Busch said, “That I won on the way to Slinger. I've got to go to Slinger. I'm going to stay here tonight, chill out and get a good night's sleep, get out of here in the morning and head up there and, hopefully, win a Late Model race.”
After winning two events, UNOH 225 and Quaker State 400 this race weekend, Busch will move to Slinger Speedway, Wisconsin, to race in the Super Late Model event. With his victory at the Camping World Truck series race, it was very likely for him to score
a triple victory at this race weekend but Brad Keselowski clinched the Nationwide Series event.
His victory was possible after leading for two laps and holding down David Reutimann and Jimmie Johnson. This is the 22nd win of his Sprint Cup career and 99th in overall NASCAR career. The Kentucky race win makes him the third driver
with most wins.
Jimmie Johnson commented about his inability to lead the race in final moments and said, “I was able to hang with the 18 [Busch] inside of Turns 1 and 2, and he just cleared me going down the back. The outside lane had a little bit more momentum coming off
of [Turn] 2 down the back. If I could have stayed inside of him, it would have been one heck of a finish at the end.”
According to Johnson, Reutimann was the fastest driver of the evening and had a chance to pass Busch if he had not been engaged with him.
