It will be a 4th car.  Gibbs has already said he wants to expand to 4 cars in the future and may have sponsors lined up for it.  The original plan was for Joey to be the 4th car next year for at least a handful of races.  With Tony leaving assuming they get a sponsor look for the plan to move up a little and Joey moves to the 20 team next season.

I think that's something he'd just like to do, but I don't think he can unless one of his drivers don't make the chase.

He is going to wait until the last 10 races and take Kyle Busch out of the car for 4 races, so HMS can have a shot...  NOT!

that's a great question - i've been wondering that myself.

the only suggestion i heard someone make yesterday on one of the pre-race shows was that if tony doesn't make the chase by some chance, then (and only then of course) it might be best for all involved if gibbs let tony leave early. that would benefit tony as he could start driving for and working on his new team before next year, and gibbs could get logano and zippy working together this year as well.

but i think tony's going to make the chase, and i'm guessing all three gibbs teams will be there. so joe and j.d. may have to either field a temporary fourth team or buy him seat time in someone else's ride - maybe one of those that switches drivers weekly anyways.  or one of waltrip's toyotas ;-)  logano would probably even manage to bring them up in the standings; heck, even wrecking out he couldn't bring them down much more than they normally do themselves.

He could field a fourth car, perhaps with the number 80, like he has done for Aric Almirola in the past... Joey would have to qualify for each race, but I think he could do it.
