Joe Girardi discussion with Alex Rodriguez went “great” – MLB News
New York Yankees’ Manager Joe Girardi will be extremely disappointed with what he saw from third baseman Alex Rodriguez throughout 2012 season. Rodriguez, who still has a guaranteed $114-million and five years remaining on his contract, was benched in three
out of eight post-season games for the Yankees.
Girardi used him as a pinch hitter in three other games but Rodriguez was unable to score runs in any of them. There were rumours that Rodriguez had issues with the Manager until Girardi phoned him to discuss matters.
According to a leading sports website, Girardi reached out to A-Rod on Friday to reaffirm his importance to the Yankees going forward. The source further claimed the two had a great conversation and Rodriguez was very receptive to Girardi.
"I made decisions based on the season, a month, what I'd seen," Girardi said last week at Yankee Stadium. "For me to go back and say I would have changed anything, these weren't just, 'Let me go off the top of my head and make a decision.' These were things
we evaluated a lot before we made our decisions."
“He’s been very good to me over the years so he has a lot of equity with me,” said A-Rod of Girardi, who acknowledged that speaking to A-Rod was on his list of things to-do in a press conference last week.
Since A-Rod has a no trade clause on his contract, the Yankees will be unable to move him in the winter. Girardi knows that Rodriguez is one of the best hitters in Yankees’ batting line-up. He had a poor season with the bat but he is determined to turn things
around.
It seems Girardi has started to take care of his offseason to do list. Talking to Rodriguez was certainly was the top priority on his to-do list as he wanted to strengthen his relationship with the star hitter.
Rodriguez also claimed that he had no issues with the Manager. It will be interesting to see if A-Rod can find his lost form in the next season to help the Yankees win the World Series title.
