Joe Hart impresses, Riise returns - Fantasy Premier League Team of the Week – Part 1
The Barclays Premier League returned to its usual self, in terms of results, as Gameweek 6 after Gameweek 5 threw up its fair share of odd results. There were no major upsets on the weekend; even Manchester United being held to a draw at the Britannia Stadium
did not come as a surprise as Stoke City are near impossible to beat when they play in front of their home support.
As for Fantasy Premier League managers, it was another consistent week in the points earned area as the average points earned by the managers was 45, which is five points higher than Gameweek 5’s tally.
As with every week there were a number of star performers and we start things off, as we usually do, down the order.
Goal Keeper
Joe Hart – Manchester City – 8 points
When managers pick a keeper for their Fantasy Premier League side, they expect the standard six point return. So, when a keeper exceeds expectations it is always a reason to smile. Joe Hart, not only kept a clean sheet for his side, but he also managed to
bag an extra two Bonus points for his fine display.
Defenders
Leon Barnett – Norwich – 11 points
Making his debut on the Team of the Week line-up is Norwich defender, Leon Barnett. After a fairly quite opening to the Premier League campaign, Barnett put in a performance which will definitely have a few Fantasy Premier League managers look up and take
notice.
Although, Norwich were unable to keep a clean sheet, Barnett, managed to find the back of the opposition’s net. The goal earned him six, very welcome points and his overall contribution bore fruit in the form of three Bonus points. Whether the Norwich defender
will be up here on a regular basis or not, it is still too early to judge.
Gareth McAuley – West Brom – 9 points
Another player to make his debut this week on the Team of the Week is West Brom defender, Gareth McAuley. For once, however, the defender is here for his defensive performance instead of his goal scoring exploits.
With a clean sheet and a full 90-minutes under his belt, McAuley would have earned the managers, who picked him for their side, with the standard six points. However, the fact that he was a rock and held the back line together in what was a strong performance
meant that 3 extra Bonus points were in order.
John Arne Riise – Fulham – 9 points
Returning to the Barclays Premier League, the former Liverpool player reminded everyone this week just why he was such a hot asset when he played for his former club.
Capable of scoring and setting up goals, the Norwegian left back is a strong defender as well. Managing to keep the opposition at bay meant Riise would earn six points and a splendid performance at the back means that the 3 Bonus points were never in doubt.
