Goalkeeper Joe Hart has paid tribute to Manchester City legend http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Neil-Young-c27470 who passed away on Thursday after losing his battle with cancer.
Flags at the Eastlands were flying at half-mast after Neil Young’s death was confirmed. Hart says the emotion around the club at Young’s death shows just how much respect the 66-year-old commanded.
Neil Young was an integral part of the Manchester City squad that won the FA Cup in 1969, scoring the winning goal against Leicester in the final. Young’s heroics in that match earned him a permanent place in the club’s folklore, something that none of the
current crop of players can claim to have.
Speaking on the legacy of the late Neil Young, City goalkeeper Joe Hart said, “It is a sad day for the club. Neil was part of the history of this club and was held in high regard by everyone. He did so many great things, achieving what the club is striving
for now.”
Hart added, “It shows that by doing something like that at a great club like Manchester City can put you down as a legend.”
Manchester City have not won any sort of silverware since their 1976 triumph in the League Cup. The Sky Blues have a great opportunity to end their trophy drought in the ongoing 2010-11 season, and are currently lying in third place in the league. Their
title bid was dealt a blow after they drew 2-2 against Birmingham City recently, however, Hart believes that the squad has what it takes to bounce back from that disappointment.
The City number one said, “Hopefully we will turn the corner pretty soon and we will be a very hard team to break down again.”
We will see whether Manchester City can bring their title challenge back on track when they face West Bromwich Albion on 5 February, 2011.
