Joe Jogia whitewashes Joe Delaney in qualifying round 2 of World Snooker Championship 2011
Joe Jogia has outplayed the relatively more experienced, Joe Delany, by a frame score of 10-4 in the qualifiers round 2 of the Betfred.com World Snooker Championship 2011 at the English Institute of Sports in Sheffield, England.
Joe Delaney, who previously reached the last 16 during the World Snooker Championship 2007, crashed in the second round yesterday to Jogia who is looking to enter the Crucible Theatre for the first time.
Delaney, who previously had a comfortable win against Igor Figueiredo by a frame score of 10-5, couldn’t pocket more than four frames in the match against Jogia. There were no centuries made in the match by either player and the overall score-line was 82-55,
68-61, 56-80, 55-31, 94-6, 77-22, 55-6, 63-18, 39-59, 58-28, 0-85, 41-61, 62-2, and 56-47.
Jogia stormed into the first two scrappy frames to lead 2-0 before Delaney took the third one with a classy break of 69 to come within one frame by 2-1. The fourth frame was again a slow one. A bout of safety was seen between both players in which Jogia
eventually came on top to lead 3-1 before the interval.
After the interval Jogia, who was playing a tactical game again dominated the first four frames showing a bit of his break building skills this time. He made breaks of 79, 62, 31 and 52 respectively to extend his lead by 7-1.
Delaney managed in winning the ninth frame though he gave too many chances to his opponent after a break of 29. However, he was lucky to get back after Jogia failed to capitalise and broke at 39 this time.
In the evening session, Jogia again took the first one before, out of the blue, a superb break of 81 came from Delaney in the 11th. The Irish professional also took the following frame after a bout of safety to reduce the deficit by 8-4.
However, he was not able to win anymore frames and the matter was finished off when Jogia took the following two consecutive frames. There were no reasonable breaks by Jogia, rather he relied on his safety skills to secure his place in the third round.
Joe Jogia will now face Robert Milkins in the next round and both English professionals will battle it out to reach the final qualifying round of the World Snooker Championship. Let’s see if Jogia makes it to the home of snooker.
