Joe Johnson appreciates snooker talent of Anthony Hamilton – Snooker News
Despite playing brilliantly at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield, the Englishman Anthony Hamilton was unable to book a place in the initial round of the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event. He was up against the Welshman Michael White in the final round
of the 2012 Wuxi Classic qualifying session but failed to improvise accordingly and tumbled down to the Welsh potter by the score line of 5-4.
However, despite his defeat in the qualifying session, the former World Snooker Championship winner Joe Johnson still believes in Hamilton and feels that the Englishman is one of the most talented potters but has no luck. Johnson appreciated Hamilton’s playing
style saying that he has watched Hamilton playing at the baize and he has a superb break building skills.
Hamilton has clinched 200 century breaks so far and lifts the cue pretty well but unfortunately he has not been able to win even a single major ranking event. The Sheriff of Pottingham made his way into the World’s Top 16 potters once when he reached the
World Number 13 rank.
After that the luck has never been in his favour but Johnson still has faith in his talent and is hoping that one day Hamilton will become one of the most tremendous snooker players.
While speaking to the local media, Johnson said, “Anthony was a great player and probably an underachiever considering the talent he had at his disposal. I have watched him a lot over the years and played against him as well – he beat me when I was past
my best and he was just coming onto the scene but you could see he was a fantastic potter.”
He added, “He is one of the best century-builders ever – and that's a very high compliment. But he has had over 200 century breaks without winning a tournament, which is unbelievable.”
Hamilton fired two outstanding century breaks of 128 and 102 to move two frames up at 3-2 but after that he failed to maintain his performance and slipped down in the end against White with the score line of 5-4 missing his chance once again.
