Joe Johnson carries Brooklyn Nets to a 113-111 win over Milwaukee Bucks in overtime: NBA Recap
Joe Johnson made amazing plays down the stretch to rescue Brooklyn Nets, who downed the Milwaukee Bucks 113-111 in overtime. Johnson made a clutch three pointer at the end of regulation to tie the score and take the game into overtime.
In overtime, he made a crucial jumper with the time running out to seal the deal for the Nets.
He even nailed a 35-footer shot in the closing stages of the game but it was not counted, as coach P.J. Carlesimo took a timeout just before he made the shot to set up his team final play.
“My confidence is through the roof -- my teammates, the coaching staff, they believe in me so much down the stretch that I would never want to let those guys down." said Johnson after the win.
Johnson is fast establishing himself as the clutch player as he is now 8 of 9 from the field with less than 30 seconds on the regulation or overtime period.
"Regardless of the situation, whether it's regular season or playoffs, it's always a great feeling. And, just to see everybody kind of explode with excitement is probably the best feeling."
Johnson commented when asked about how does it feel to win a match in the last seconds.
He led the Nets with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 dimes. Brook Lopez had 19 points and 9 rebounds while Guard Deron Williams had 19 points and 9 assists under his belt.
Brandon Jennings gathered 34 points on the night in 13 of 26 shooting from the floor, but it was not enough for his team on the night. Monta Ellis chipped in with 18 points and 8 rebounds in the losing cause.
Nets got off to a good start to the game, they kept up the scoring in the first period to head into the second quarter with a 7 point advantage. Second quarter had a similar pattern, Nets outscored the Bucks to extend their lead
to 10 points at halftime. But Bucks were not to go down without a fight. They come down hard on the Nets in the third quarter and contained them to only 19 points to head into the final period with a single point advantage.
The game remained close till the end as Johnson heroics down the stretch resulted in a 113-111 win for the Nets.
