Joe Jordan speaks highly about Cody Asche and Cesar Hernandez - MLB Update
Philadelphia Phillies boast prospects in Minor League that they can count on in the upcoming seasons.
The likes of Cody Asche and Cesar Hernandez are emerging with great credentials to become Major Leaguers within a few years.
They have put up splendid performances on consistent basis in the Minors. More importantly, they have earned an accreditation of the Phillies’ director of player development, Joe Jordan.
Jordan has heaped praise on both these players, stating that their potential for becoming reliable batters for the Phillies cannot be doubted.
Jordan basically reviews prospects in the Phillies’ farm system and make judgments about the possible players that will be in the majors after a couple of years.
He maintains that throughout this year Asche and Jordan have performed beyond his expectations.
The Phillies were below par in the 2012 season. They posted an unimpressive win-loss record as they were eliminated from regular season without qualifying for the post-season.
Unlike what they achieved in the last five years, they could not clinch National League East Division title in the season.
Among the most acceptable reasons of their failures is the mediocrity of their offence, which betrayed them time-and-again during the season.
Their batters did not live up to the requirements of the team. They struggled in the most of the matches to post a sufficient number of runs on the scoreboard.
Furthermore, their inability to produce runs marred the quality shows of the Phillies' pitchers. Starters, for example, Cole Hamels and Cliff Lee stepped up and threw solid innings on a number of occasions but they were disappointed by the little run-support
coming off from the offence.
In light of this, the Phillies will be looking to acquire new batters in the offseason.
The fact they have promising prospects in the form of Asche and Hernandez can help them add new hitters in the team from their own farm system as opposed to using trade options.
The Phillies can take heart from the fact that they have the necessary resources to claim that they can improve next year.
It will be interesting to keep track of the events related to Hernandez and Asche and their possible inclusion in the Phillies for the next season.
