  1. I believe Joe could take whatever Holyfield could dish out, but could Evander take the Bombers best?  I feel that Joe would rough him up enough to win a decision, perhaps tko13.

  2. the holyfield of 2000 split 3 fights with john ruiz, who evander would've easily handed 5 years earlier.

joe against the '00 evander........louis in 5 rounds

joe against the '91 evander........louis by decision.

  3. Louis, wearing a nightgown, spinning hula hoops on both arms, and sitting on a tricycle beats "Evan Fields" 10 times out of 10.

***Ruddiger. . . .find me ANY " Top Heavies of All Time" (other than yours, apparently) that lists Holyfield higher than Louis. . . . and I'll wash your car!

  4. Are you nuts Guzman??That is the most retarded statement i think ive heard. Both men were counter punchers, except that Holyfield was bigger and stronger. Also Holyfield faced all the best heavyweights of last 20 years and won most of them.

Holyfield in his prime was a Iron chinned, intelligent, fast counter puncher who used his head and shoulders in his attack. Louis reigned over a heavyweight division that is similar to what we have now (maybe a little better)

Holyfield would attack Louis, forcing Louis to fight going back. Holyfield would land crushing counter shots until Holyfield parries a Louis hook and lands a crushing right hand that puts Louis down.

Louis would probably get up, but Holyfield would just pound him along the ropes until the ref stepped in and stopped it.

Don't forget Louis was hurt and put down by smaller men then himself. What elevated Louis above his competition was that he was years ahead of his time because he knew how to counter puncher..and at that time nobody knew what a counter puncher was.

Today Louis would have trouble with even some B level heavyweights. He would probably drop down to Light heavyweight or cruiserwieght to be competitive.

Now your talking about The Evander Holyfield that was still kicking around in 2000, Louis might outwork Holyfield to win a decision. By 2000 Evander was a shell of his former glory, but still went 12 rounds with Lennox. I got to think he could still pull a decision win over Louis even in 2000, but Louis would stand a way better chance.

  5. To some, painting Louis as anything less than a god is like telling Stevie Wonder jokes to a black person over 30,  better duck.  Evander couldn't put a dent in some of the big boys.  But Louis is no giant.  Still, believe it or not, if they stood face to face you wouldn't see a great difference in size.

    Louis is 6'1.5" 205.  Holyfield is 6'2.5" 214

Both men are in supreme condition.  Holyfield ranks considerably low on many list,  although RING Mag once had him as high as 3rd after the first Tyson fight.  Louis was second, ALi first.

Joe would have his hands full.  Evander throws a lot of punches at a time and that is the strategy he would use against Louis.  During the course of the fight Holyfield would reach Louis' chin and score a knockdown.

Now call me crazy but Holyfield had a slightly better chin than Louis.   Joe was knocked down three times by in two fights Walcott.  He was also dropped by Schmeling.  Rocky did it too but Joe was a very old, stressed out man by that time.

Holyfield was hurt by Burt Cooper but it took many punches, not one,  to knock him down.  Evander has never been knocked down by just one punch during his prime.   He lost many late in his career.

Louis would KO some who would beat Holyfield but he would have a much tougher time beating Holyfield.   He would score his own knockdown later in the fight.   IF  Bert Cooper had Evander flopping about the ring like a fish out of water I can't imagine the much sharper punching Louis not doing the same, even to the bigger version of the Holy man.  Still Evander would survive to hear the final bell.

    Louis by close decision.

  6. Joe Louis was arguably the greatest heavyweight champ of all time and held the title for nearly 12 years.  He had fast hands, power in either hand, a killer instinct when he had you hurt and was also an outstanding boxer.  Holyfield was a warrior in the ring and never took a backward step as he was always prepared mentally and physically particulary in his true prime.  This would be a tremendous fight while it lasted with Louis using that powerful jab to set up his power shots.  Holyfield would be hurt several times during this bout, but would fight back gamely and shake Louis a few times with the crowd getting to their feet in this exciting fight.  Louis would stagger and hurt Holyfield badly in round 11 and hurt him with a barrage of punches.  Finally the referee would see enough and stop the fight with Louis the winner by technical knockout.
