Joe Maddon looks motivated ahead of Spring Training - MLB News
In an interview with a leading sports website, Tampa Bay Rays’ manager Joe Maddon stated that his love and passion for the game has been his motivation since he made his Major League Baseball career debut.
"We're all motivated by different things," Maddon said Wednesday. "My motivation isn't the dollar sign. It never has been, never will be. My motivation is to do something that I love, where I love to do it, with people I enjoy doing it with. That matters."
"It matters that you can show up every day and really like walking in the door, love walking in the door. That matters. And when you have the cooperation, and Andrew (Friedman, executive vice president) used the word 'trust,' at the end of the day, that's what it's all about."
The manager has given impressive results after joining Tampa Bay Rays team. He is very famous among the Rays fans for getting the best out of his team. Maddon further added that he is extremely delighted at staying with the Rays for another three years. Earlier, the club confirmed the news that they have agreed to a three year contract extension with Maddon.
When someone is not living to the expectations, Maddon does not mind talking to him in person. He works hard with each member of the team to resolve issues and above all, he loves to be a part of Tampa Bay Rays. General Manager Andre Friedman has also given him freedom to do the things the way he likes them.
Rays displayed some high quality baseball skills last season to make it to the playoffs for a second straight season. Prior to the 2008 season, the Rays looked completely down and out. However, Maddon showed great determination, fighting spirit and mental strength to turn things around.
For his efforts, he was named the American League Manager of the Year. That did not stop him from working hard as he helped his team make reach post-season in 2011 despite making a poor 0-6 start. He will be looking to get decent starts from his pitchers this season to achieve his desired results.
