Joe Maddon pleased with his contract extension – MLB Tampa Bay Rays News
According to a leading sports website, Tampa Bay Rays' manager Joe Maddon is very pleased with his situation these days as he agreed to a three year contract extension with the Rays on Wednesday. In an interview in October last season, Rays’ general manager Andre Friedman had told reporters that the club wanted to offer Maddon a long term contract.
Maddon spent the last month with his family in Europe. The manager has fans all over the world as everybody likes his aggressive style of managing.
"We were deep in the bowels of this cathedral and this kid from Taiwan comes up to me and asked, 'Are you Mr. Maddon?'" Maddon said. "He said he was a big Rays fan. He loved the way we play."
The 58-year-old manager has given impressive results since he joined Tampa Bay Rays. He was named the American League Manager of the Year in 2008. Although the Tampa Bay Rays failed to live up to the expectations in 2011, Maddon won his second American League Manager of the Year Award. Leading his team to a second consecutive playoff appearance despite a poor start past season, he showed the world what he is capable of.
"For me, you don't have to look somewhere else — it's right here," Maddon said. "I mean, everybody wants to look somewhere else — it's right here. You'd think it was the middle of the season. I am a little on the George side of things right now."
"We'll save the Benjamin Button of major-league managers for another time," Friedman said.
His winning percentage of .508 suggests that he delivers the results consistently. Unlike other managers or players, Maddon does not like changing jobs too often. He has a very inspiring personality and he works hard with every individual in the team.
The upcoming Spring Training will be of great importance to him. If Tampa Bay Rays can find the right hitting and pitching combinations in Spring Training session, they will have a great chance to achieve their targets during the regular season. The fans are also waiting to see the star players getting back to the ballpark.
