Joe Mauer debuts on first base as Minnesota Twins defeat Chicago White Sox 6-2 – MLB Update

Joe Mauer made his debut at first base in Major League as the Minnesota Twins comfortably defeated the Chicago White Sox by 6-2 at the US Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Thursday, July 7.
Minnesota was quick to inflict their aggressive instinct on the White Sox as they added their six runs inside the first four innings. Ben Revere and Tsuyoshi Nishioka starred with the bat, both adding two runs each.
Revere got things underway for the Twins at the top of first inning before Danny Valencia and Nishioka added one each in the second inning. The Twins improved on their performance in the fourth inning and gathered three runs with Nishioka, Revere and Drew
Butera adding one each. Mauer was useful at the plate as he connected three times for two RBIs and helped the Twins build a momentum.
Chicago’s starter, Philip Humber, had a hideous stay at the mound as he leaked out 11 hits and six runs in 3.2 innings that he pitched. His spell featured six errors and just two strike-outs for a well-merited fifth loss of the season. Hector Santiago relieved
Humber and managed to halt the scoring. Santiago allowed just one hit in the subsequent 4.1 innings before Brian Bruney safely closed the game. The relievers were brilliant with the pitching. They could not, however, repair the damage done by Humber early
on.
Carl Pavano was clever at the mound as the Twins’ starter aimed at accuracy to halt runs, rather than attacking the batters. Unlike Humber, Pavano used his entire repertoire to test the batters and rightfully succeeded. In seven innings of his pitching,
the White Sox could craft only six hits and two runs. The two runs came in a fifth inning effort by Mark Teahen and Alexei Ramirez, where all other Chicago batters succumbed to the clever play by the Twins. Pavano won his sixth game this season.
With the game certainly over, after Pavano had pitched seven, Glen Perkins and Matt Capps pitched in one inning each to safely seal the night for the Minnesota Twins.
This was the eighth-straight win for the Twins against the Chicago White Sox. This win gives the Twins a one-game lead over the White Sox in the four-game series. The Twins are 39-47 for the season and need a resurgence to get back on level terms with other
leading teams.
The White Sox have seen a dip in performance over the past few games. They are 43-46 now and need to shift gears if they aim to stay in contention.
