Joe McEwing will remain as Chicago White Sox third base coach – MLB News
In the past few days, the Chicago media has been busy speculating different stories regarding Chicago White Sox third base coach Joe McEwing as he will be going soon to another franchise for a potential managerial position.
However, recently some reports have suggested and somewhat this is now confirmed as he will not be going this season and staying with the White Sox as third base coach for the next season.
Last week, the St. Louis Cardinals had a very brief interview with McEwing for their vacant managerial position but after the recent appointment of Mike Matheny as the Cardinals new manager, the White Sox management will resume their attentions towards the
next spring training season with McEwing.
Before this new appointment in the Cardinals’ organisation, the media was generally focusing on McEwing’s potentials to be as Cardinals’ new manager. Even the Cardinals’ team chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. was very excited when he and his management met with McEwing
and talked about various matters which directly reflected both sides’ desperation to work for each-other in a friendlier manner.
DeWitt had said, “There are good young talents out there. Everyone starts somewhere, it should be a very desirable situation and I know there will be candidates out there calling, texting, and writing, whatever they do.”
Looking at the new situation where no more teams are expressing their desires to offer McEwing any potential job, the White Sox management is more than pleased and focusing on a new relationship with their third base coach.
Joe McEwing’s presence has already given a great boost to the White Sox roster. The White Sox struggled in the 2011 Major League Baseball season but down the stretch in the competition, they recovered and played some beautiful games. Overall they went with
79-83 (win loss) along with a .488 winning percentage.
These are relatively good stats that people were expecting at the start of the season. McEwing, who himself had a great MLB career, knew where the White Sox entire roster was struggling and where he needed to fix the problems. As the season past by, he gave
additional confidence to all his players and told them to be strong at crunch times of the game and show their resilience with full energy. Later, the White Sox did what they were told and the results started to show.
Though the White Sox recovered, it was relatively late and they could not qualify for the post-season. On the other hand, this late recovery due to their third base coach Joe McEwing was enough for the White Sox management to think of a long relationship
with him.
