http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/ce/Bobby_Bowden-FSU_2006.jpg/800px-Bobby_Bowden-FSU_2006.jpg One of the best of all time! Should have won more titles since he's had most of the talent in the state of Florida! (In my humble opinion)

Here's the deal! Neither one will retire first. One of them will pass on while coaching since they both want to finish as the all time leader in wins. This will insure that the other finishes as the leader in wins. They are both too stubborn to retire. YOU KNOW I'M RIGHT !!!

Talk to me! Tell me how you feel. I can take it. Thanks!

  1. I honestly think health will make them retire. Mentally they'll be there, but physically probably not. I could honestly see their end come with death instead of retirement. You never know when your time is, especially at that age. You can check out at any time.

  2. I would like for these two to be tied and play in a bowl game at the end of the year.  They both retire after the game, the winner goes out with the most wins.

  3. ahaha i love this question.. i say bowden just cuz it looks like jopa will be coaching at penn state for 12 more years at this rate......ahaha

  4. Bowden will get fired by season end cause there gonna be 5-7 or 6-6 again.

  5. Jopa will retire first, he's older and he looks like he's about to fall right over, I'm surprised he's still coaching he'll probably die right in the middle of a game (I hope not) it would be a tragedy but he would die doing what he loves

  6. Joe Pa can't hold his mud anymore.  He should retire.

  7. Bowden willl retire.  I hope he does not negotiate a deal for a son to take his place.  Wins?    Penn State had many years without scholarship limitations in NCAA major college football.  Did Paterno beat Bowden's WVU teams each year?  Yes.  The greater impact coach: Bowden.   He started out like Pat Hill at Fresno. He went to big arenas and beat big teams. FL St. started football circa 1947.   Paterno did not get old, the game changed.  The rust belt teams are hanging on for now.  But, the Big Ten will not be able to compete with the Pac 10 or SEC in another 10 years.  The SEC does not have three service acadmies to play. Plus Temple, Rutgers, etc.   Apples and oranges comparsions and I guess if you are fan of PSU then you are.

  8. Well, I am of the opinion (Yahoo! sports agrees with me and just ran an article about this recently too) that Bowden will retire first. He has already named a head coach after his retirement, he is currently putting into place things that will leave FSU in good hands after he's gone, etc. It's like he knows the end is within a season or two, and he's making sure everything is in place just in case it happens at any given moment...

JoePa has made no such plans of any kind, beyond publicly stating that he a) doesn't think about it too much and is sick & tired of answering that same question, and would rather just concentrate on this year's squad, and b) that he hopes he can leave the next coach (who I think will probably be his son, jay paterno) with some "meat on the bones" (or in other words, a decent class of recruits) like Rip Engle did for him ages ago.

This makes sense to me, but I am of the conspiracy theory that the two men (who are very good friends) might retire if "the series becomes even" this year or next. Currently, Bowden is leading for winningest coach of all time by ONE GAME (373-372). Also currently, PSU is doing and looks like they will be doing better than FSU for the next couple of years. So I wonder if PSU goes like, 9-3 and FSU goes 8-4 regular season (which would tie the two men) if they are going to call eachother and both agree to simultaneously retire, tied. I think that would be awesome. And hey, it could happen...

Either way, both men are prime examples of what was, is, and hopefully will stay great about college football.

  9. Joe Paterno Health Reasons, I see Bobby Bowden hanging around because he has No Reported Health Issues.

  10. Whichever receives their promotion from God first will be the first to "retire."

  11. Bobby Bowden will retire first.  My daughter thinks Joe Pa will die on the field at Happy Valley and they will bury him right on the field.

  12. i got 20 on bowden...joe pa wont retire till hes dead.
