Joe Perry earns an easy win over Graeme Dott in Round 1 of 2012 World Snooker Championship
Snooker fans across the world are witnessing major upsets in the opening round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
Another addition was made into this list when England’s Joe Perry clinched an easy victory over the former World Snooker Championship runner up, Scotland’s Graeme Dott in their first round match at the Crucible arena by the score line of 10-1.
The clash was expected to be one of the tussling encounters but the Englishman changed the face of the game with his classy snooker display against Dott.
The unseeded Perry dominated the game from the start and did not let his opponent claim even a single frame from the start. At the end of the first two sessions, Perry was leading the match with 8-0 score line and had a psychological advantage over the Scotsman.
Perry needed only two frames to claim the second ever whitewash victory in Crucible but Dott managed to triumph in one frame to add a digit on his side of the scoreboard.
However, Perry took the next two frames to finish the match in his favour and book his place in the second round. The Fen Potter was quite excited after beating a player like Dott in the opening round.
Perry spoke to World Snooker during his post match interview, “It was a strange game and very difficult circumstances yesterday, I could see Graeme struggling and that started to affect me in the end. I know what it's like to feel like that out there, I've
been there myself, I felt for him to be honest, and I lost concentration.”
The Man from Sicily added, “We all know that the harder you try the worse it gets and I just felt for him really, I'm just happy to get through and I hope Graeme bounces back and gets back to the player he is.”
Perry will next face another Scotsman, Stephen Maguire in the second round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship. Perry rates the Scot as one of the best potters in the world and believes he has little chance against him but still he wants to play Maguire.
