Joe Perry happy with PTC Event 1, hopeful for 2011 Australian Goldfields Open: 2011-12 Snooker Season
England’s Joe Perry lost to Ronnie O’Sullivan in the final encounter of Players Tour Championship (PTC) Event 1 at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield on Wednesday, June 22. However, the 36-year-old
is satisfied with his performance at the start of 2011-12 Snooker Season and now he aims to qualify for the upcoming Australian Goldfields Open 2011.
Perry played impressively in the first event of PTC and reached the final match against the Essex Exocet, O’Sullivan. He made it to the end beating Sanderson Lam 4-0, Mark Joyce 4-2, Tom Ford 4-3,
James Wattana 4-0, Jamie Jones 4-1 and Graeme Dott 4-2. However, he could not manage to upset O’Sullivan and crashed out 4-0, in just 51 minutes.
After PTC Event 1, Perry joined fellow cuemen Barry Hawkins, Mark Allen and Gerard Greene in Pink Army of On Q Promotions. On Q Promotions is a player management that provides services to snooker
players regarding their professional career.
Perry will now be back at World Snooker Academy in Sheffield for the qualifiers of 2011 Australian Goldfields Open 2011 starting from Sunday, June 26. The Chatteris potter is aiming to make it to
the Last 32 stage of the event.
Speaking to the reporters, Perry said, “Qualifying for Australia is very important for me as well. There are a lot of new places on the calendar this year and the prospect of going to places like
Australia and Brazil is really exciting. I want to play in as many different countries as I can.”
Perry finished last season at number 27, but is determined to improve his rankings in the new season to participate in all major events in future.
He told the media, “The first half of last season was prety much a write-off for me and I don’t want that to happen again. I’m hoping it can be a good season and I can start climbing back up the rankings.
I know I’m capable of reaching the top 16 again but the one thing I’d really like to do is to win a tournament.”
Perry had a bright start in the 2011-12 Snooker Season and that only goes to show his determination towards his goal.
