Joe Perry sets up Matthew Stevens clash beating Rouzi Maimaiti in 2012 Haikou World Open
England’s Joe Perry successfully made his way into the televised stage of the 2012 Haikou World Open after beating China’s Rouzi Maimaiti by the score line of 5-0.
The Englishman has now made his way into the early stages of the 2012 Haikou World Open where he will meet the former Premier League Snooker winner, Wales’ Matthew Stevens in the first round. The pair has already played against each other in the 2010 Euro
Players Tour Championship (Euro PTC) Event 5 where Perry whitewashed Stevens by the score line of 4-0.
Meanwhile, Perry’s wild card round clash against the Chinese was a piece of cake for him as he easily managed to claim the victory. The 37-year-old just took 90 minutes to place his names in the first-round qualifiers after he crushed the 28-year-old Chinese.
Perry set up Maimaiti match after he won his qualifier against compatriot Anthony Hamilton by 5-1.
The Fen Potter was outstanding on the baize at the Haikou Stadium in the Hainan Island, Beijing. He cruised into an early 2-0 lead before Maimaiti bounced back into the game in the third frame. The Chinese troubled Perry a bit in the third frame but a missed
red dragged him 3-0 down. The Gentleman swept the table easily in the next two frames to ensure his victory and a spot in the televised stages of the 2012 World Open.
Speaking to the World Snooker after winning the wild card match, Perry said, “It could have been a bit closer at the interval, maybe 3-1 or 2-2 and obviously it's a different game then. I had a bit of luck at the right time but I played pretty good and managed
to get a good score line.”
The Man from Sicily added, “I'd seen him play before at one of the other tournaments out here and obviously he's a good player. Maybe he didn't have his best night tonight - he missed a couple of balls but that can happen. Every match is tough now and you've
got to be on top form to have a chance to win it.”
On the other hand, England’s Michael Holt nearly survived a brutal defeat at the hands of Zhu Yinghui of China. With a superb comeback in the second session, Holt was able to save his first-round spot as he took the decider frame to win the match by the
score line of 5-4.
