"I think everyone gets a bit nervous. But I got out there, and there were thousands of people there and a great atmosphere - really loud - and I just found myself smiling and enjoying myself."
"That took over for me, and I didn't really worry about anything. I just wanted to make it last for as long as possible," Root went on to add.
Root, whose only Test appearance was against India in December last year, is tipped to open the batting for England in the Tests, alongside skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026. The Yorkshire batsman, however, said that he does not mind where he bats in the order.
"I don't really mind where I bat, whether it is No 6 or opening - as long as I play," said the 22-year-old batsman who competes with Nick Compton for a Test spot.
"We've played some really good cricket, winning both the Twenty20s and one-dayers which is what we set out to do," added the Yorkshire batsman, who has so far played 8 One Day Internationals and averages above 81 with the bat.
The first Test between England and New Zealand Kick starts at Dunedin on March 6, 2013. Before the series opener, the Poms are also scheduled to play a four-day practice match against New Zealand XI at Queenstown from February 27 to March 2.
