Joel Diaz: I knew Khan was going to lose – Boxing News
Following his fighter’s unexpected victory over pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao, Joel Diaz believes the world of boxing is changing. In his recent interview, Diaz revealed he had predicted a win for Garcia and a brutal loss for Khan for their July 14
encounter.
“I knew he was going to lose,” said Diaz when asked about the fight.
He added, “I called that fight. Even thirty minutes before the fight, talking to my brother, he said ‘What do you think?’. I said ‘You know what? Danny hits hard and he shoots the left hook with bad intentions. Amir Khan is going to get caught’. Thirty minutes
later, there he was, Khan was down.”
Garcia was the underdog for the showdown and so was Bradley against Pacquiao. Somehow, both fighters managed to grab victories, something that has shocked the entire boxing universe. While Pacquiao’s loss was controversial and is still a hot debate, Khan’s
defeat was crisp and clear. The Bolton proud fell prey to Garcia’s usual left hook.
“Down. What else is there for him? He thought he was going to beat Danny Garcia,” added Diaz.
“You know what? I’m really happy for Danny. They underestimated him. He was an underdog in that fight. You could see the HBO commentators, they had Khan.”
Diaz further said that the commentators were praising Khan right from the start, something they did for Pacquiao on June 9. He believes Garcia was being underestimated and that is exactly where Khan went over-confident.
According to Diaz, no fighter should ever underestimate an opponent, it usually back fires.
Diaz believes there is nothing left for Khan in the sport. Like many others, even Diaz is of the view that Khan should retire but the Bolton proud insists he has a lot more left in him to offer.
For now, Khan is looking forward to a rematch against Garcia in December this year. There are speculations of Khan being Ricky Hatton’s comeback opponent, but nothing is for sure yet. Khan is keen on getting a rematch against Garcia, to prove his mettle
against the unbeaten American.
