Joel Gayle pushes Maxime Michel into dark in European Club Championships – Badminton Update
Eltham Green’s Joel Gayle proved his mettle by overwhelming Maxime Michel of Issy Les Moulineaux in Group B match of European Club Championships on May 30, 2012.
This Men’s Singles encounter prolonged to 64 minutes and both shuttlers amused the crowd before reaching a conclusion of 21-16, 15-21 and 20-22.
The French campaigner Maxime Michel opened his marathon in perfect fashion but the determination of his opponent proved too much and he knelt down in last two games.
On the other hand, the British shuttler earned great deal of admiration for his comeback after first set loss.
In the opening game, Maxime Michel launched a swift attack and gained an immediate lead with some nonstop rallies.

Later part of the set was bit entertaining as the suppressed contender Joel Gayle made swift progress with some back-to-back points.
However, the French player served notice of his supremacy in final moments when he bagged first set with 21-16 margin.
Eltham Green badminton club finally got something to cheer when its shuttler bounced back in very next segment and levelled the match score.
This time, Joel Gayle did not faltered at any stage and manipulated every loophole. He employed interesting strategy as many times he pushed Michel to the border of court with some power packed strokes and then earned vital points with drop net shots.
In opening part of the set, Joel set the foundation of splendid victory by forming a decent lead of five points. His competitor never came out of this deficit and surrendered after reading 21-15 score on the board.
The decider proved best part of the tussle as both contenders entered in court with high passions and expectations. They mesmerised the audience with a breath-taking performance.
They remained close until game point situation but finally Joel Gayle made difference with a tight yet decisive total of 22-20.
However, his club-mates could not follow his successful trail as Eltham Green had to face a shameful 1-6 defeat which demoted them to third position in Group B of the event.
